Growing Vases by Nendo for Lasvit

Growing Vases by Nendo for LasvitAmazing as this installation looks in still images, the achievement can be better understood if the viewer can move around it. Thanks to Dezeen, therefore, for arranging an interview, recorded at Mint, with the Japanese designer Oki Sato of Nendo, who created the concept for Lasvit.

It was originally created for the exhibition built around the concept of a Cocoon that was put together for Milan this year by Fabio Novembre. The components are blown glass, with the blow pipe left in them. The pipes are narrower than normal, and have had extra bits added to them. As a result, they look like flowers in vases (hence the name), or plant bulbs.

But what we like is the sense of random objects rising -- perhaps to their own surprise! -- from amongst the gathering of their earth-bound colleagues.
